Oct. 25-31: Ohioans filed 21,263 initial jobless claims last week

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans filed 21,263 initial jobless claims for the week ending on Oct. 31—an increase from the week prior, when the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported 17,531 filed initial jobless claims.

The total number of initial jobless claims filed in Ohio over the last 33 weeks totals 1,828,808, which is more than the combined total of those filed during the last four years.

Last week, Ohioans filed 265, 613 continued jobless claims, which was 510,689 fewer than the peak earlier this year.

Over the course of the last 33 weeks, the ODJFS has distributed more than $7.1 billion in unemployment compensation payments to more than 833,000 Ohioans.

Of the more than 1 million applications, 95% have been processed, while less than 5% remains pending.
