EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 15-year-old was charged with murder in connection to the police pursuit that ended in a crash, killing a 13-year-old bystander in East Cleveland.
On Friday, a police pursuit began on West 117th Street in Cleveland around 3:20 p.m. after a woman exiting Target was approached by a male with a gun who demanded her vehicle.
The male in the stolen car entered Interstate 90 heading east and traveled into East Cleveland. An off-duty officer who witnessed the carjacking began pursuit and was joined by a second officer. The pursuit ended in a crash that occurred in the area of Euclid Avenue and Lakefront Road in East Cleveland, according to police.
During the crash 13-year-old Tamia Chappman, who was walking in the area, was killed, police said.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested and a gun was confiscated on the scene.
The 15-year-old has been charged on three counts including murder, aggravated robbery and robbery. All three charges include firearm specifications.
The teen's next court date has yet to be scheduled.
