EUCLID, Ohio — Euclid police are questioning a suspected gunman after two women were shot outside a home near the intersection of East 211th Street and Roberts Avenue Tuesday morning.
Police said it happened just before 11:30 a.m.
A neighbor said he was upstairs when he heard gunfire in the normally quiet neighborhood.
"I heard three gunshots and a scream," said Riley Richard who lives across the street from the scene.
Richard said he ran downstairs, looked out the window and saw a woman lying on the ground being attended to by a
woman and a man until police and paramedics arrived.
"Very scary," said Richard. "I have children and a wife—it's too close to home."
Investigators said one adult woman was shot in the chest, the other in the hand.
Both are hospitalized but expected to survive.
Police said the suspected gunman was arrested at the scene and is being questioned.
So far, Euclid police have released few details about what led up the shooting.
People living nearby said the sight of an SUV with a window shot out, police, and evidence markers seemed out-of-place.
"You hear about about what's happening in Cleveland and then you go home and it's happening right in front of your home," said Antonio McMullen who lives a few blocks away. "It's just sad."
McMullen works for the anti-violence group Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance.
"2020 has become a place where it's not safe anywhere," said McMullen.
He said his wish for the new year is an end to the violence that's rocked Northeast Ohio.
"It should be a top priority for all law enforcement to come together and see what we can do to try and put an end to it, or just stop it, see what the cause is," said McMullen.
Police have not said if the suspected gunman knew the two victims. A Euclid police spokesman said that's part of an on-going investigation.
No charges have been filed in the case.
