33-year-old Bay Village woman killed in head-on crash on Royalton Road in Strongsville

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — A 33-year-old woman from Bay Village was killed in a head-on crash on Royalton Road west of I-71 in Strongsville Thursday, according to a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at approximately 12:13 a.m. on Royalton Road near the Southpark Mall.

State troopers said the crash involved a 2006 Toyota Corolla and a 2018 Dodge Charger.

A 50-year-old woman from Olmsted Falls was traveling west in the Dodge Charger when the Toyota, driven by Amy M. Sords of Bay Village, was heading east, traveled left of the center line and struck the Dodge head-on.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were disabled in the westbound lanes.

A witness told state troopers that he was traveling east on Royalton Road when the Toyota passed him left of center at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

Sords was not wearing a seat belt and was critically injured from the crash. She was transported to Southwest General Hospital but died as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the Dodge was wearing a seat belt and had minor injuries from the crash.

The OSHP said this is the 26th fatal traffic crash of 2021 and the 20th crash where a person killed was not wearing a seat belt.
