LAKEWOOD, Ohio — An unusual pursuit that started in Sandusky and spanned four counties ended in Lakewood Wednesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Video from News 5 photojournalist Mike Vielhaber shows a pickup truck with no tires attempting to elude police on I-90 near the Lakewood-Cleveland border.
It all started at around 12:14 a.m. when the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Sandusky Post was called to assist the Ottawa Sheriff’s Office for a vehicle that was fleeing.
Crazy pursuit overnight that started out west near Sandusky & ended on I-90 under Warren Road in Cleveland. The vehicle continued to flee from deputies at approximately 100 mph.
Once troopers and the vehicle reached Erie County, the Huron Police Department deployed stop sticks, causing the two right tires of the vehicle to come off.
A deputy's cruiser also sustained a flat tire from the stop sticks.
With only one tire left, the truck became disabled on the right side of I-90 near mile marker 165.
Once the driver eventually stopped, he fled on foot, crossing all lanes of I-90 and running into a neighborhood in Lakewood.
A helicopter was used to locate the driver of the vehicle.
Police later released a passenger in the truck who was initially taken into custody.
A spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver, identified as a man from Bedford Heights, will be transported back to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office where he will be charged.
