INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — A local server was in for a major surprise when she saw a tip left for her last month.

In February, two women went to have lunch at Slyman's Tavern in Independence.

The customers told their server Tanya that they were both widows and they didn't cook dinner that often since they lost their husbands.

Tanya could relate to them because she lost her husband this past April.

The three bonded over their grief when they surprised their server with the tip of a lifetime.

"She was completely shocked. She didn't know what to do. She was crying, they were hugging. She has never received anything like that before," marketing coordinator Rebecca Riemer said.

The bill was a little more than $100, so a 20% tip would be about $20, but her guests did better than that.

They left her a $2,021 tip, which also happens to honor this year.
