BEACHWOOD, Ohio — An alleged theft at Beachwood Mall Thursday led to a police officer firing his weapon in a parking lot.
According to the Beachwood Police Department, the officer fired the rounds in a parking lot north of Saks Fifth Avenue. The man, who police have not identified, jumped into a car and fled. The car had previously been reported stolen out of Cleveland.
The officer chased the man to Richmond Heights, but the alleged thief abandoned the car and escaped on foot.
It’s not known if the man was injured when the officer fired his weapon. The officer sustained a foot injury during the chase. No other injuries were reported.
According to police, a weapon was recovered from the scene.
The incident is still under investigation.
Heights Hillcrest Communications Center later released a photo of the alleged thief. Anyone with information about the man’s identity is asked to call Beachwood police at 216-464-1234.
