CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Cleveland Heights woman who noticed a lot of litter around her neighborhood turned to the youth to help her make their neighborhood a better land.
Mindi Garfunkel saw all of the litter piling up as the snow in her Cleveland Heights neighborhood began to melt, so she recruited some young people who live near her and they got to work.
The children came together to help pick up the trash in a three-block radius, filling up bags with the trash and beautifying the place they call home.
Around 50 children signed up to help clean the neighborhood.
“It's a one time project but I think that it's creating an awareness for the kids, it's going to be an eye opener. They're going to start to notice garbage and maybe they'll pick it up,” Garfunkel said.
Garfunkel made sure the children helping had a little extra incentive, buying them all slurpees for their hard work.
