EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — East Cleveland police have arrested a man after a standoff Thursday night.

The standoff happened in the 13500 block of Superior Road.

Police said the woman was struck in the head multiple time with a firearm. A man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

"I don’t know if it went off accidentally or he intended to shoot the male," Chief Scott Gardner said.

Chief Gardner said the two victims were taken to the hospital before the standoff began. Their condition is unclear.

Police said that both the suspect and his girlfriend, who was also inside, surrendered peacefully.

"It has been a pretty busy week for us I'm glad this ended peacefully for us. Obviously a situation like this can turn out in many different ways so we're happy this came out peaceful," said Gardener.
