EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — East Cleveland police were involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting.
Officers responded to a rape in progress in the 13800 block of Superior Road around 3:45 p.m.
Police said they were confronted by a male with a gun.
The male approached the female victim with the gun pointed at her head, police said.
Police said they told the male to drop the gun, but he didn't. Officers fired shots and struck the man.
Police said they were told by independent witnesses that the female had been shot by the male.
The male and the female were transported to University Hospital.
The male was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The female is being treated for injuries sustained by the male, police said.
The Ohio Attorney General's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification was contacted related to the officer-involved shooting.
