A 20-year-old man was arrested after gunfire was exchanged that killed a 23-year-old man and injured another, including himself on Tuesday.

The shooting happened in the 3400 block of East 121st Street at around 7:05 p.m.

When police arrived, they found Martez Thomas, 23, of Lyndhurst, with a gunshot wound to the head and chest, and a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. Police administered first aid until EMS arrived. Both were taken to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center where Thomas died from his injuries, police said.

An initial investigation reveals Thomas and another man were sitting in the car when Walter Jackson, 20, and another person allegedly pulled up and opened the victim's car door, police said. Gunshots were exchanged before Jackson and another person fled the area at a high rate of a speed, police said.

Officers later found out the vehicle that fled the area after the shooting had dropped off a man with a gunshot wound at South Pointe Hospital, 2000 Harvard Road Warrensville Heights.

The victim, identified as Jackson, received multiple gunshot wounds to the elbow, hip and buttocks. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was later arrested for aggravated murder and felonious assault, according to police.
