BEACHWOOD, Ohio — A fugitive wanted for allegedly hitting a police officer with a stolen car at Beachwood Mall last month has been arrested.
Jaquan Jones, 19, was taken into custody Thursday by an undercover task force comprised of the Cleveland Division of Police Heroin Involved Death Investigation Unit and First District patrol officers, according to a news release from the city of Beachwood.
The release states that police located Jones in a car and initiated a traffic stop. Jones allegedly rammed into multiple marked and unmarked police cars before being apprehended. One police officer was injured in the melee.
Following his arrest, Jones was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail on charges of drug trafficking, seven counts of felonious assault on a police officer, receiving stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.
Jones had been on the run since June 27 when he allegedly fled from police after shoplifting at the Beachwood Mall. In that incident, Jones managed to escape after jumping in a stolen Nissan sedan and ramming his way past patrol cars and over the foot of a police officer, authorities said.
Charges relating to the Beachwood incident will be presented to the grand jury in Cuyahoga County, according to Beachwood officials.
Jones is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 2.
