PARMA, Ohio — The Cuyahoga County Medical examiner says 5-year-old Jax Ponomarenko’s manner of death was homicide; his father, 31-year-old Parma man Matthew Ponomarenko, has been charged with aggravated murder after he admitted to a 911 dispatcher that he killed his son.

The medical examiner listed the cause of Jax’s death as “blunt impacts of head with skull and brain injuries.” In the 911 recording from March 25, Ponomarenko told the dispatcher he killed his son with a baseball bat.

At a bond hearing in Cuyahoga County court Wednesday, Ponomarenko was given a $5 million bond.
