Mitchell’s Ice Cream opened their 10th shop right in the heart of Shaker Heights’ Van Aken District on Thursday.
The 2,345 square foot shop is located at 3400 Tuttle Road.
Pete and Mike Mitchell opened their first store in Westlake in 1999. Since then the company has steadily grown across Northeast Ohio.
The Van Aken store is another part of the brother’s continuing commitment to local communities. Not only is the ice cream at the store handmade, but the brothers also strive to be eco-friendly as well.
The new store is the first location that received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, otherwise known as LEED. The shop uses LED lighting and high-efficiency gas furnaces.
The owners said the location provides a convenient place for families to enjoy each other’s company.
"The Van Aken District doesn't feel like a shopping center, it feels like a neighborhood. It's a great feeling that my brother and I get when a community reaches out to us to have some sort of presence there. We like to find ways to be part of communities in a special way," owner Mike Mitchell said.
