Newburgh Heights police arrest strong arm rape suspect

Newburgh Heights police have arrested a suspect in a strong arm rape that happened on June 17.

The suspect, Chinyere "Ray" Okoronkwo, 20, was arrested on Tuesday around 5 p.m.

On the date of the rape, Okoronkwo allegedly followed the female victim while she was walking home from Fleet Avenue in Cleveland. The victim said she was attacked and raped near her home. She sustained non-life threatening but incapacitating injuries and was treated at MetroHealth Hospital, according to police.

Okoronkwo was charged with rape and felonious assault and is being held on a $1 million.

Officers said the incident appeared to be a random act of rape and violence. Police ask the public to be conscious of their surroundings and report suspicious behavior to police.
