NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Newburgh Heights police officer is in the hospital after being involved in a rollover crash.
Officials said the accident happened before 11 a.m. in the 3500 block of Independence Road.
The officer, Robert Veverka, 43, was trying to catch a traffic offender when he hit a patch of ice and lost control, according to Chief Majoy.
The vehicle flipped several times.
Officer Veverka was originally entrapped but was able to get free, according to Majoy.
Officer Veverka was transported to Metro Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and discharged Sunday afternoon.
The Newburg Heights Police Department thanked those who assisted the officer on the scene, as well as those who have sent well wishes to the officer.
