NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — Two people and a dog were rescued from a house fire in North Royalton Sunday, according to the North Royalton Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to rescue and resuscitate a person from the fire that broke out in a home in the 13200 block of State Road. That person was transported to a nearby hospital where they later died, authorities said.

A second person was also rescued and is alert, being treated for smoke inhalation, according to authorities.

North Royalton firefighters rescued a dog from the home, which they said is doing fine.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but remains under investigation, which authorities said will take some time.

The North Royalton Fire Department said the fire spread extensively and it is uncertain if anything within the home is salvageable.
