NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — An agreement was reached between Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 15 to allow the North Royalton Jail to remain open.

This comes after the mayor announced his intention to close the jail due to years of annual losses of $500,000 or more. He hoped to use the savings to add more police officers to the force.

The agreement includes allowing the city jail to remain open pending an opportunity for the corrections officers to reduce expenses and increase revenue over the coming months. All officers will be recalled and offered an opportunity to retain their employment.

The mayor and city council will review any progress in conjunction with the city budget later in the year.
