Ohio State Highway Patrol out in force

Ohio troopers will be out in force for the long Thanksgiving weekend.

In Cuyahoga County, there is double the number of troopers on the road compared to a normal day, and it will be that way until Sunday.

“Historically, the Thanksgiving weekend has been one of the more deadly holidays,” said Lt Rob Gable, Commander of the Cleveland Metro post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Last year, there were 26 fatal crashes in Ohio during Thanksgiving weekend.

Troopers will be out looking for drunk drivers, speeding drivers and distracted drivers.

Drivers typically hit the brakes when they notice a police car, but not always. “Not everyone reacts, and we run into that as well. A lot of those people end up sitting in front of a cruiser with the lights on,” added Gable.

Troopers can’t be everywhere and see everything, so troopers are asking for the public’s help. If you notice something dangerous on the roads, dial #677.
