PARMA, Ohio — A traffic controller officer for the safety department of the City of Parma was struck by a car Wednesday on West Pleasant Valley Road.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., a 13-year veteran officer was on the road marking crosswalks on West Pleasant Valley Road when a woman turning off of Lincolnshire Drive turned onto West Pleasant Valley and struck the officer, according to Parma police.

The officer was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center with injuries unknown at this time.

The female driver who struck the officer has not been charged and has been cooperative with police, Parma police said. The driver volunteered to conduct a blood alcohol test that came back negative.

West Pleasant Valley Road from Broadview Road to Green Valley Elementary School and Normandy High School is currently closed.

Police said it will reopen the road before school lets out and the closure will not affect traffic for drivers picking up students from school.
