PARMA, Ohio — A World War II veteran living in Parma was honored in a special way by the City of Parma on Friday.
Parma resident Gazie Sterrick reached a milestone as he turned 100 years old. Mayor Tim DeGeeter presented Sterrick with a certificate recognizing his service and milestone birthday.

Sterrick and his wife Helen have been married for 72 years.
He served as a corporal in the army and fought in the five major battles of the European campaign: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

Rewards he has received include the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars. He was discharged from the army in 1945.
