Police identify suspect wanted in Maple Heights double homicide

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Maple Heights police have identified a suspect wanted for a shooting that left two people dead and one person critically injured over the weekend.

Authorities announced Tuesday warrants have been issued for the arrest of 19-year-old Jalen Lathan Smith on charges of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder.

Police say Smith should be considered armed and dangerous. Authorities said there are other persons of interest in the case.

Smith has ties to Cleveland and Chicago. He also goes by the names, Jalen Smith, Jalen L. Smith and Lathan Smith, authorities said.

A photo of Smith was not immediately available.

The shooting happened Saturday morning in the 14400 block of Brunswick Avenue.

Police responding to the residence found blood on an open door and two men inside who were later pronounced dead. A third victim is currently being treated at MetroHealth Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.
