Maple Heights Police are investigating a shooting that left a pregnant woman and man dead and a teenager injured.

The alleged shooter, Jason D. Iverson, 29, is a relative of the victims, according to police.

The shooting happened around 3:15 p.m. Monday at Stafford Park, resulting in the deaths of 30-year-old Mercedes Iverson, who was pregnant, and her husband, Norbert Carter. A 13-year-old boy was also hurt.

According to police, Iverson had been "feuding" with family members and went to the park after finding out they would be there. After arriving, Iverson tried to fight the woman and her husband, but they went to their car to avoid him.

Police said that's when Iverson pulled out a gun and shot into the car, striking the woman. The 13-year-old was injured when a bullet grazed his arm. When Carter exited the vehicle, Iverson chased him through the park to a bathroom, where he shot and killed him.

Iverson fled the scene after the shooting but was caught by Maple Heights Police officers after a short time. He will be arraigned on murder and attempted murder charges Wednesday.
