CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio — More people were killed in crashes during the Christmas holiday than last year, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 12 people were killed in eight crashes, which is one more person than last year.

The reporting period of those crashes took place between Dec. 23 at midnight until 11:59 p.m. on Christmas.

“We need motorists to commit to keeping our roads safe by planning ahead to designate a sober driver and insisting that everyone in the vehicle is buckled up,” said Colonel Richard S. Fambro. “Motorists can help fight the battle against impaired driving by actively influencing friends and family to do the same.”

Cuyahoga and Wayne counties had one fatal accident during this time.
