BEACHWOOD, Ohio — University Hospitals released Monday details regarding the second phase of the Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood scheduled to break ground this fall, according to a news release.

When the 64,000-square-foot space is completed in about three years, nearly 1,000 jobs will be created, according to a spokesperson for University Hospitals.

The cost of project is estimated at $200 million and is scheduled to be completed by 2022.

The five-floor hospital tower and two-floor bay will feature a neonatal intensive care unit, a labor and delivery unit, an expansive women’s health and breast health center and a sports medicine complex.

The sports medicine complex will be the largest in Northeast Ohio, equipped with an outpatient rehab space, 18 exam rooms, access to MRIs and a performance center.

In the labor and delivery unit, there will be five labor and delivery rooms with two C-section rooms, four well-baby beds and an antepartum/postpartum section.

Inside the women’s health center, there will be two new mammography units, bringing the total to six when added to the current one at UH Ahuja Medical Center and three at UH Minoff Health Center.

Additions to the women’s center will allow for same-day mammography and biopsy results.

There will also be an ambulatory surgery center. Currently, outpatient surgeries are performed in UH Ahuja Medical Center's 10 operating suites. The addition of this center will free up operating room for more complex inpatient cases.

The future home of the UH Ahuja Medical Center Phase 2 will be located at 3999 Richmond Road in Beachwood.
