Cell phone video posted online appeared to show the moments that led up to a fight last week at Westlake High School, leaving one student seriously injured with a fractured skull.
newsnet5.com did not post the full video because of its graphic nature. At this point, 18-year-old DeAndrew Smith is the only person charged in the incident. All other faces have been blurred.
The video appears to show the fight from a vantage point in the restroom. Words and pushes are exchanged between Smith and the victim, who police said was a 17-year-old student.
The end of the video allegedly showed Smith flipping the other student over. Court documents said Smith then “grabbed another student by the torso and slammed his head into the concrete floor of the high school bathroom.”
Smith appeared in Rocky River Municipal Court on Tuesday for a felonious assault charge. A preliminary hearing was set for May 3.
He was also set to appear in juvenile court on Wednesday for a rape charge filed in February.
