SANDUSKY, Ohio — The Erie County Sheriff is apologizing after deputies failed to notify a Sandusky neighborhood about a registered sex offender, who is accused of attacking an 11-year-old girl.

Darius Knight, 30, is a Tier III sex offender.

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said a deputy failed to use the formal process of notifying neighbors living near Knight.

Sigsworth said they will do better and they have done better, and will make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

Knight has been charged with gross sexual imposition, unlawful restraint, parole violation and resisting arrest in connection with an incident last Wednesday.
