CHESTERLAND, Ohio — Gas prices are on the rise in Ohio after the state gas tax increased.

Prices rose by 12 cents this week to $2.676 per gallon on average, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report.

One of the main reasons for the increase is the 10.5 percent per gallon tax increase, which went into effect on Monday.

This is the first tax increase since 2005 and will help fund road repairs across the state.

The most expensive gas in the area is in Chesterland for $2.750 per gallon and the cheapest gas in the area is in Niles for $2.582 per gallon.
