MIDDLEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a person was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Middlefield Township late Friday night.

The crash happened around 11:38 p.m. on Burton-Windsor Road, east of State Route 608.

According to OSHP, a 2004 blue Nissan Xterra was heading east on Burton-Windsor road with five occupants in it when the driver lost control due to icy road conditions, and the vehicle went off the right side of the road and flipped over. A passenger was thrown from the vehicle and then trapped underneath it.

That passenger, OSHP said, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not been released.

Two other passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for their injuries. The driver and one other occupant weren’t injured, authorities said.

“The crash remains under investigation,” OSHP said. “Alcohol does appear to be a factor, none of the occupants were wearing their seat belts.”
