AUBURN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a driver who lost control and went off the road and struck a tree in Auburn Township (Geauga County) Sunday night, according to a news release.
At around 7:40 p.m., troopers from the Chardon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to Auburn Road near Crackle Road for crash after a 28-year-old driver, identified as Jessica Knautz, of Newbury Township, was driving a Ford F-350 pick-up truck and lost control while heading south on Auburn Road.
Knautz lost control on the snow-covered road and traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree on the driver’s side of the truck, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers pronounced Knautz dead at the scene, the news release says.
The truck had two other occupants inside, who were taken to nearby hospitals for nonlife-threatening injuries.
All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
It’s unknown at the time of the news release if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Auburn, Troy and Mantua fire departments assisted with the crash.
The crash is under investigation.
