EASTLAKE — Lake County prosecutors say they will seek to try a teen accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old boy as an adult in court.
The 17-year-old teen was arrested Saturday after Richard Adams, 20, walked in on him allegedly molesting the child in Eastlake. The teen has since been charged with two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition.
Adams was also arrested and charged with felonious assault for allegedly attacking the teen when he saw what was occurring, according to authorities.
News of the incident has made its way across the country and Adams has received a wide range of support, from people calling him a hero to others offering to pay for his legal costs. A GoFundMe set up by Adams' uncle has raised over $38,000, which is $8,000 more than its $30,000 goal.
A petition in support of Adams has been created that urges police to drop the charges against him.
