The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify remains that washed ashore in Willowick.
A woman called police around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday to report that she found possible human remains near the lake in the 31000 block of Lakeshore Blvd.
"I found a weird looking object and it appeared to have a bone sticking out of it," the 911 caller told dispatchers. "And it almost looks like a hand on one end."
Police said officers were able to confirm that the remains were human but, due to the state of decomposition, race and gender are unknown at this time.
The Lake County Coroner's Office responded to the scene but the remains were transferred to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office for further testing.
