Icy road conditions and bad weather are believed to be a factor in a crash that killed a driver early Tuesday morning in Lake County, confirmed Sergeant Jason Clark of the Madison Township Police Department.

The crash happened at 7:46 a.m. in the 2300 block of Hubbard Road in Madison Township.

A driver in a Ford F-250 was heading south when the truck hit a patch of ice in an area where there isn't much tree cover, according to authorities.

The truck fishtailed and crashed into a Ford sedan, causing the driver's side of the sedan to be ripped off.

The truck also flipped on impact, Sgt Clark said.

The driver of the sedan was killed as a result of the crash. The driver in the truck suffered minor injuries, police said.

The Lake County Crash Investigation Team is investigating the crash, but the weather is believed to have been a factor.

The name of the driver killed in the crash is being withheld pending family notification.
