UPDATE: As of 11:20 p.m. Thursday, the boil alert has been lifted.
A boil alert has been issued for several areas in Lake County.
The Lake County Department of Utilities is advising residents to not drink water out of the tap without flushing and boiling it first.
Heath officials released the following statement about the advisory:
Flush all taps used for drinking and cooking for at least 4 minutes. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for at least 1 minute at a rolling boil, and let it cool before using; OR use bottled water.
Boil or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.
Boil tap water even if it is filtered. Most kitchen and other household water filters typically do not remove bacteria or viruses.
Officials haven't said how long the boil advisory will be in effect.
