Buckeye Relief's medical marijuana cultivation plant in Eastlake is one of just 12 of its kind statewide, and it's ready to start hiring. When you see the facility now, it's tough to believe the first conversation about bringing medical marijuana to Eastlake happened just about two years ago.
"Nobody has ever seen anything like what we are doing here because it's the highest technology ever deployed," said Buckeye Relief's owner, Andy Rayburn.
After breaking ground on Dec. 1 and receiving its cultivation license on Dec. 2, the business will finish construction in July.
Buckeye Relief forged a partnership with the city of Eastlake about two years ago.
"It will help out with our economic growth," Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley said, adding, "We're a pioneer! We are working with the top group in the state to get this up and running."
The owner Rayburn said he's waiting on a dispensary license, which is expected to come at the end of this month, and an extraction license, expected at the end of June. If those two licenses are approved, the company would add about 20 jobs, bringing its total to 40 employees.
"We are going to have everything from cultivators to people trimming, packaging, sales," Rayburn said.
What are they looking for?
"We are really looking for attitude, enthusiasm and a belief in the medicine," he said.
