Police catch burglar in Wickliffe after he leaves trail of footprints in snow

A 32-year-old Wickliffe man was arrested after he left a literal trail of evidence at the crime scene.

According to Authorities, on Dec. 29, a resident who lives on Colby Court was awoken by strange noises coming from the back of their house.

After searching for the source of the noise, the resident discovered a screen had been removed and an unknown person had gained access to the house.

The resident called 911 and when police arrived they found fresh footprints in the snow leading from the window to a home on the 1500 block of East 289th Street.

The suspect was arrested on an aggravated burglary charge and taken to Wickliffe City Jail.

According to authorities, the man had been staying with relatives at the house on East 289th Street.

Police did not release the suspect's name.
