WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — Students at South High School and Willoughby Middle School will be learning remotely after quarantines of staff members have made it difficult for school officials to staff the building.

Beginning Friday, students at South High School in Willoughby will transition to virtual learning. South High School will reopen once the safety of staff and students can be ensured, the district said.

At Willoughby Middle School, current cases have caused an excessive number of staff absences brought about by quarantines, school officials said.

The middle school will be closed beginning Oct. 30. All students will be learning virtually by logging into Schoology and Google Meets.

School officials hope to reopen Willoughby Middle School on Nov. 2.

Lake County, where both schools are located, remains under a Red level 3 on the state's Public Health Advisory System.
