ELYRIA — An Elyria woman who overdosed on heroin is alive thanks to her granddaughter’s quick thinking.
On Saturday, authorities responded to the 500 block of Bell Avenue after the 11-year-old called 911 and said she had just found her grandmother with her face down on a coffee table, according to an Elyria police report.
The grandmother was treated with naloxone by first responders and then taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for treatment.
While at the house, police said that they seized various prescription narcotics. The grandmother later told police she had snorted heroin.
The grandmother was arrested the next day while at the hospital, authorities said. She was charged with endangering children and transported to the Lorain County Jail. She was released after posting bail.
She is scheduled to appear in court on June 16.
