Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection to car break-ins in Elyria.

Police responded to the 100 block of Preston Avenue at around 3:45 a.m. to a resident complaining of two men attempting to enter a vehicle.

Luis D. Alvarez Rivera was arrested and charged with two counts of possessing criminal tools and one count of criminal trespassing.

Rivera used his 2006 Audi sedan during the crime and possessed items used in connection to the car break-ins, according to police.

Police also arrested Larry D. Girard who was charged with possessing criminal tools used in connection to the car break-ins.

Rivera admitted to police that he broke into at least a half a dozen vehicles in the Preston Avenue neighborhood located near Elyria Catholic High School, 725 Gulf Road.

Police have increased patrols in the neighborhood to reduce car break-ins. Residents are asked to keep their cars locked and valuables out of their car while they are unattended.
