A crash in Lorain Sunday morning left one man dead after his vehicle rolled several times and landed on top of him, according to Lorain police.
Officers said James Updegrove Jr., 22, was driving westbound on West Erie Avenue when he lost control and drove off the right side of the road into a grassy field after passing the intersection with Frankie Drive.
Updegrove's Chrysler Town & Country went airborne and began rolling, according to police. They said it rolled several times, causing him to be ejected. The vehicle finally landed on top of him, officers said.
Updegrove was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. His remains have been turned over to the Lorain County Coroner's Office.
Police believe Updegrove was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. They said he was not wearing his seatbelt and believe he was speeding.
The road where the crash happened was closed for three hours after the incident while authorities investigated. The accident is still under investigation.
