An Amherst police officer seriously injured in a SWAT standoff last month has been released from the hospital.
Officer Eugene Ptacek, a 17-year veteran of Amherst police, was shot when he responded to a barricaded suspect situation near the corner of Ferndale Avenue and Howell Street in Sheffield Lake.
The suspect was later taken into custody by police. He is a former corrections officer who worked at the Northeast Reintegration Center in Cleveland. He has not been formally charged with the shooting.
