AVON LAKE, Ohio — Move over Clark Griswold—an Avon Lake man is giving you a run for your money with his extravagant Christmas lights display.
The lights on his home attract people from near and far.
James Gerrasch went over-the-top this year with his display which includes 55,000 LED lights, homemade sparkle balls and 44 artificial trees. Plus, a homemade nativity scene and toy soldiers.
His displays are so extravagant that he usually starts decorating in mid-October.
“I love to do it and I just love the reactions I get out of people when they see it,” he said.
Gerrasch said this holiday tradition actually started when he was a teenager decorating his parent’s house. Every year, the display gets bigger and bigger, with more lights and decorations.
Cathy Vocaire, his oldest daughter, said her dad will continue the tradition as long as he stays healthy and physically able to do so.
She said ever since she was little, her dad had always gone above and beyond for the holidays—spreading joy to everyone.
"With COVID-19 he wanted to give people something to look forward to when they drive around the area," she said.
Visit their display at 194 Fay Ave. in Avon Lake.
