AVON LAKE, Ohio — Avon Lake have found a vehicle that struck a bicyclist who was seriously injured and had to be life-flighted to the hospital.
On Wednesday, Avon Lake police received several calls about a vehicle striking the bicyclist on Lake Road at the corner of Moore Road, according to a news release from police.
Several people on scene said a dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows, possibly a Ford Focus hatchback, fled the area south on Moore Road. On Thursday, police released video showing the vehicle allegedly involved.
Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling west on Lake Road and cut the turn going left of center to travel south on Moore Road. When the vehicle turned, it struck the bicyclist, who was traveling east on the south side of Lake Road.
Police recovered the 2017 Ford Focus from a body shop in Avon. The vehicle matched the description and sustained front end and vehicle damage.
The department has made contact with the suspected driver.
The bicyclist, identified as a 51-year-old woman, was seriously injured and life-flighted from the Avon Lake Fire Department lot to Metro Hospital, the release states. She remains in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon, according to an Avon Lake police official.
