Lorain police are investigating the suspicious death of an 18-month-old baby.

According to police, the baby died while in the care of 30-year-old Summer Shalodi.

Police were dispatched to a home on Driftwood Drive on Dec. 13 for a report of a child who was not breathing. When officers arrived, they found the baby girl motionless next to a bed on the second floor. Officers administered CPR while they waited for Life Care but she appeared to be cold to the touch, police said. She was pronounced dead by EMS minutes later.

Authorities said she had been dead for several hours.

Shalodi told police she had been babysitting the child since the day before but noticed something was wrong when the child stopped moving. She said she attempted to perform CPR but wasn't sure how so she called 911.

Police later charged Shalodi with endangering children and tampering with evidence.

The Lorain County Coroner's Office is investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Brian Denman at the Lorain Police Detective Bureau at 440-204-2105.
