Boy with brittle bones to get new paved lot

Posted

An 8-year-old boy with brittle bone disease is getting a special gift—a new parking lot!

Just two days after we aired a story about Jaleel Phillips, the manager of the apartment complex he lives in said work to pave the Sheffield Township parking lot will start Tuesday.

This comes after newsnet5.com's Paul Kiska to a close look at Jaleel's bumpy ride home from school.

The roads that approach his home at Sheffield Estates apartment complex are filled with potholes.

"That hurts him and he cries,” his school bus driver Kelly Harrish told newsnet5.com Tuesday.

And the road inside his apartment complex is even worse, something his dad says puts his son at risk.

“It's pretty bad, It's pretty terrible, it messes with his back, he has back problems. He's just dealing with the pain, it's hard for him,” said Matthew Phillips.

That's all about to change thanks to the paving work that's set to start next week.

And what about the pothole-filled road nearby? Sheffield Reality, the company that owns the road, told Paul Kiska they will pave that road in a few weeks.
