Broken electrical pole causes power outages in Lorain County

AVON, Ohio — Power has been restored for thousands of residents in Lorain County after a broken electrical pole at Colorado and Chester roads caused outages for residents in Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville, according to the Avon Police Department.

One of the contractors working in the area hit the electrical pole with an excavator, according to police.

The power outage is causing problems for drivers as there are major traffic tie-ups throughout the city because of this outage.

According to FirstEnergy, the previous outages for the following cities were as follows:

  • Avon: 4,092
  • Avon Lake: 3,296
  • North Ridgeville: 643

Traffic lights are operational again, according to police.

Erie, Lorain and Huron counties are currently under a High Wind Warning. Lorain, Erie and Huron counties can expect southwest winds between 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph.
