LORAIN, Ohio — County officials have confirmed that a carbon monoxide leak at a Lorain polling station sickened two workers and briefly stopped voting until backup machines could be set up in the parking lot.

Authorities responded to the Italian American Veterans Post 1 on Oberlin Avenue just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

One poll worker was sent to a nearby hospital but was released later that evening. A second poll worker was treated on scene by crews from the Lorain Fire Department, a Lorain County Board of Elections representative said.

Workers were able to set up backup voting machines outside. Voting was only disrupted momentarily.

Firefighters said they are working to determine where the buildup of carbon monoxide originated from.
