AVON LAKE, Ohio — The City of Avon Lake is choosing to embrace the winter weather with a fun contest for its residents. Every year since 2016, the city hosts a snowman building contest.
From Frozen’s Elsa to masked-up snowman, families in Avon Lake are not missing out on any fun or a little friendly competition.
So far, 31 families have submitted their pics for this year’s snowman contest, typically up to 50 families participate.
“It's during these difficult times of the pandemic, just as you mentioned, trying to get the community out, the families together, a little bonding time out in the article, putting these snowmen together,” said Tim Pincheck, director of recreation for Avon Lake.
The contest means a lot more for families who are stuck inside due to the pandemic.
“Anything we can do to connect with the community, try to get them out until we get through this difficult time as this is pretty much our goal,” he said.
Families have until Feb, 28 to get their snowmen up and their pictures submitted. The winner will be selected by an in-house panel.
