The driver in the May 2017 crash that claimed the life of a 17-year-old Midview student on prom night has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, according to court documents.

Police said 18-year-old Chase Elliot Johnson was heading home from Midview's after-prom around 3 a.m., in a 2004 Saturn Ion when the crash occurred.

The passenger, Lindsey Mae Rotuno, was killed after the car entered the median at the intersection of State Route 57 and 82 and struck two utility poles, police said.

Authorities said Rotuno was not wearing a seatbelt.

Toxicology tests determined Elliot had marijuana in his system and was impaired at the time of the crash.

Johnson is also facing an OVI/drug charge.

A court date has not been set.
