SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — A 66-year-old man from Elyria was killed in a crash that occurred in Sandusky County Sunday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Around 6:10 p.m., a 208 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling east on the Ohio Turnpike when it drove into the rear of an unknown commercial vehicle, troopers said.

Both vehicles moved off the right side of the roadway but the commercial vehicle left the scene, according to troopers.

The driver of the Mercury, Michael Sweeny, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and had to be extricated from the car by the Sandusky Township Fire Department, troopers said.

The commercial vehicle involved should have damage to the rear. The trailer is possibly white but witnesses near the scene told troopers they were uncertain.

According to troopers, suspected debris and parts from the truck/trailer have been collected for analysis.

Anyone with information regarding the incident of the commercial vehicle involved is asked to call 419-499-4808.
